The place where Boingo has really let me down is Australia. I've yet to find a place in Sydney where I was able to use Boingo. Other than that, though, it's been great. I have had on/off success with connecting to PCCW using Boingo, though -- seems to vary from location to location so maybe it's PCCW's portal configuration doesn't know how to let the Boingo client auto-validate itself in some locations.
With Starbucks being AT&T now in the States, it works there now as well (since T-Mobile has always adamantly refused to partner with Boingo). So I have also been using it lately when I go sit in Starbucks for a while when I want to get out of the house.

it seriously rocks ... there are only a few places it refuses to work and that's only based on their roaming agreements - for now.
