Too bad you have to do this way. The gparted part is a bit... long. Leopard HD Helper worked once I found on another topic #p60478">the trick to use to get the utility to write the stuff on a USB stick.
well - last night I nuked the system with gparted by accident ... ouch. fresh start today. Easy enough though it did require the purchase of a USB cd/dvd drive.
Hopefully the leopard HD helper is easy enough to sort out once I get the partitions up and running ... it does take a while unfortunately though there did not seem to be an easy way to split things in windows.
Yeah, I've read you nuked it... you deleted a needed partition or something? When I made change and Gparted started to throw warnings and/or errors at my face I went to the conclusion it was wiser to go step by step, resize, apply, move, apply, and so on. It took some time but went flawless, finally. :)
actually I think I just discovered my mistake and why it failed on that first unrar ... need to get the iso somewhere, then use the leopard tool to install it on the partition. unrarring again to my main drive ... few more min and then will try that tool again
My first hackintosh worked first time on the desktop machine, albeit with no wifi or sound.
Tried doing the Eee yesterday with iDeneb. Got the disk burned but Eee wouldn't boot from it. Sorting the boot is my next job but for now the frosty park beckons.
thanks man - that was the closest I've been so far. Need to read more on methods. I've got it ready to rock and a specific device iso - in theory. There are a few methods posted online and I'll definitely be trying again.
yeah this stuff does get frustrating. I have built about 4 different configs including getting full tablet functionality with a motion tablet, but by far the wind was the easiest. it came with 2 partitions already in place like 40/80gig so you could just run the msi leopard cd, run it with one disk utility prep run, and then do one command line entry after you reboot. I will try to find the guide I had, do you have an external usb cd?
I have external usb cd/dvd, hard drive and flash disk ... I'm armed! Also have two partitions ready for use. a 4GB if required for hosting the image and a ~40GB for the leopard install itself
I should also do some more reading on this whole hosting the ISO on another partition thing. Ideally I'd throw the ISO onto an SD card and boot from that but haven't worked out how yet.
Maybe the kids will grace me with some time later on.
Okay grabbed an hour and followed the instructions atop for OSX install and got somewhere. Started the install and checked some of the customize options, forgot the Eee specific ones so tried to restart realising I had already borked the WinXP partition (intentional as this is a spare drive). Restart = Fail.
HP utility is my next option. Want to get the install ISO onto an bootable SD card and run install from there.

resizing / splitting my OSX partition to allow for the "install" partition to hold the iso

Silly question maybe... but why not just to use a USB flash drive to hold the .iso instead of a dedicated partition?

where's the sport?

and I did not have any luck with my flash sticks and win7 so I burned a disc on that one and figured I might as well just try this

un rarring to the partition ... no escape! It's going on there!

would have been nice for WinRAR to tell me that it was going to fail on a FAT partition larger than 4GB before reaching 90% ... round 2

cannot get leopard hd helper to activate the start button ... :(
11 months ago by atmasphere
a) select source ISO
b) UNCHECK the "Write" box
c) as target partition, select the USB stick drive letter (ignore the "not hard disk driver, try another" message)
d) CHECK the "Write" box again
e) Start button should now be active. Click it and everything should work fine.
It didn't work?

I used a spare microsd from my phone ... format to FAT or FAT32.

So did you run the install from the SD or install to the SD?
